Flo and Percy Vintage & Vintage Inspired Tiaras and Wedding Accessories

I have to admit to having a bit of an obsession for vintage jewellery and accessories.  My wedding ring is an original art-deco piece for instance.  I wanted to pull off a true 'vintage' look on my wedding day;  I had my hair fashioned in a 1930's hair style and wore a beautiful Jenny Packham gown, which evoked the glamorous style of the same era.

Googling 'vintage inspired wedding accessories' one day whilst searching for the perfect items to wear on my wedding day, led me to the Flo and Percy website.  Interesting name I thought.  I clicked my mouse.  And I didn't stop clicking for a good half hour after that as my eyes stared wide at all the glamour, sparkle and art-deco inspired gorgeousness that graced the laptop screen before me.

Here is a sample of what greeted me…

A little about the brand before I go on.  Flo and Percy was established by Kirstie Taylor, who left Art College in 1987 and has been designing accessories focussed around vintage fashion ever since.  A design course at the Central St Martins College of Art years later opened up new commercial opportunities for Kirstie, for soon after she had completed her course, Kirstie's skills were picked up by a number of discerning Brides and Celebrities who were queuing up to commission her to craft a series of beautiful bespoke Bridal pieces.  This demand for Kirstie's talents led to Flo and Percy being born.

Flo, or rather, Florence and Percy by the way, were married for 80 years and held the record for the longest marriage in the world. Here they are pictured below:

So having spent a good while marvelling at Kirstie's exquisite designs, it didn't take long for me to fall for the utterly gorgeous 'Shearer Cuff' design – part of the 'Looking Glass Collection', only, I was left feeling unsure if I wanted the co-ordinating Shearer Headband, or Shearer Comb.  Sat floundering with laptop on my knee amidst a sea of wedding magazines which probably doubled my own body weight, I emailed Kirstie my dilemma, and in no time at all, she had replied, advising me that she'd send both products through for me to try on in the comfort of my own home. All I had to do was return the item I chose not to keep.  Big relief – and extremely very helpful.

A couple of days after placing my order, postie presented me with a scrumptious surprise. I could barely contain my excitement and had to take myself up to my bedroom and have a 'quiet and composed' moment whilst I very carefully began to unravel the packaging.  Inside, were 2 little cardboard boxes – necessary casing for the delicate contents within.  Each box was prettily branded with Flo and Percy imagery and a little black ribbon. Inside, lay the items I had ordered, each delicately wrapped in black tissue paper, and in the one box, Kirstie had also left a tiny original lucky sixpence in a dinky drawstring bag (it is good luck for Brides to place a lucky sixpence in their shoe on their wedding day). I remember grinning from ear to ear at discovering this lovely surprise little gesture. My love-affair with Flo and Percy was very solidly cemented at that very moment.

Kirstie says "1940s and 1950s style has been a big trend in mainstream fashion and has already filtered through to bridal, bringing in more glamorous combs, headbands and beaded headpieces, making the tiara a little redundant, I think.  Brides now want to make a dramatic statement in their hair, to complement the simpler gowns that have become popular in more recent times, so we have designed some fabulously eye-catching pieces as part of our 'Wonderland Collection', in order to fulfil this demand".  The items below are from the quoted Wonderland Collection.

How completely adorable and exquisite are these pieces? Best still, they needn't be JUST for weddings.  These pieces could be coupled with any chic vintage outfit and worn to any party for an exquisitely vintage look.   You can bet you anyone looking will be wondering (and dieing to ask) where you got your accessories from!

You will note the absence of a shopping cart from Kirstie's website.  On querying this, Kirstie advised me that this is intentional, as she prefers to make direct contact with all of her customers.  Customer service is a top priority at Flo and Percy.  In all the 15 months it took to plan my wedding, I can honestly lay my hand on my heart and declare that my BESTEST of customer service experience (by far) was with the very delightful Kirstie Taylor.  Kirstie is one of those people you come across in life that has an honest warmth and enthusiasm about her.  She is clearly very passionate about what she does – this is more than evident when you take a look at her hand-crafted, sublime creations (only love & sheer talent could produce such beautiful pieces), but it is even more evident when you begin communicating with her;  Kirstie made me feel like I was her one and only customer and I got a very genuine sense of her wanting to be a part of my wedding planning excitement.
