Today I'm featuring the work of one of my favourite UK Wedding Photographers, Lisa Devlin.
I first discovered Lisa when browsing through a copy of the BBC Homes & Antiques Magazine (which a couple of months ago ran a 'vintage wedding' supplement') and it truly was love at first sight :) Lisa has worked with some amazing wedding couples that always seem to ooze bags of style, and together with her own signature style of photography, you know the result is going to be a winner everytime.
This is the wedding of Marnie and Bevan that took place on 28 June 2008 with a ceremony at Brighton Town Hall. Bride Marnie told me "…it was such a gorgeous & intimate wedding room with wooden panelled walls and antique chairs." The Reception was held at Brighton's Due South Restaurant which is right on the beach. It's known as Brighton's best restaurant for locally sourced, organic food and it has a really laid back, classy environment…
"We wanted a wedding that was really intimate and meaningful for everyone there. Bevan is from New Zealand, and lots of his family came over for the wedding, so we wanted to make them feel relaxed and welcome and involved. Brighton is such a bohemian, laid back place, and I guess Bevan and I are somewhat like that as people…so that's how we wanted our special day to be…"

Marnie's beautiful full-sleeve beaded wedding dress was a vintage number by Andrew Fionda Vintage Bride in Kemptown, Brighton.
"I fell in love with it immediately. I loved it's elegance, the beautiful jewelled top half with the floaty chiffon bottom half. It was a slightly breezy, sunny day, so the chiffon blowing in the breeze on the beach where we had our wedding photos taken looked so romantic and stunning. I had no veil. Instead I had my hair put up in an unstructured up do ~ I wanted it to look 'elegant-bohemian'…"
Two of Marnie's Bridesmaids wore striking olive green dresses and platform sandals to match – and a third Bridesmaid, who was eight months pregnant at the time, wore a lovely brown silk maternity dress. Bridesmaids wore 'up-do's' with olive green fascinators and Marnie bought each of the Bridesmaids a lovely simple pendant from Swarovski ~ "They all still wear them, which is lovely…"
"Flowers were from Planted in Kemptown in Brighton; white roses in a really contemporary, simple, stunning bouquet. The guys at planted are real artists. The bridesmaids had smaller versions of mine, and Bevan and the groomsmen had matching buttonholes.."
Marnie wore some very simple, lowish heeled sandles by Stuart Weitzman In cream/nude with a tiny bit of gold to match the top of the dress. She choose not to wear any hair accessories, which I think was an excellent choice, given her lovely slightly 'messy' up-do.
She also wore some simple white orchid earrings by Les Nerides – but no other jewellery, given the intricate beading on the top half of her beautiful wedding dress…
Going to the Town Hall & We're, Gonna Get Marrrrried…….
"Our wedding car was a gorgeous little open topped white Morris Minor decorated with white flowers, with lovely red leather seats. It was driven by a charming retired gentleman called Ron, who was absolutely lovely…"
Bevan sore a black Italian dinner suit, white Duchamp dinner shirt and black bow tie with Montblanc cufflinks and shirt studs…"He also wore the Omega watch that my mother gave my late father as a wedding present on their wedding day. This was my mother's gift to Bevan."
"As neither of my parents were at the wedding (my father sadly passed away, and my mother is immobile) I was given away by my best boy friend of many years. The music I chose to walk into the wedding room was "Les Pecheurs de Perles: Au Font Du Temple Saint" by Georges Bizet. It's a beautiful, moving piece of Opera, and was my father's favourite piece of music. It brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it."
Beautiful Beach Wedding…
I LOVE weddings by the sea! I got married in Whitby, but unfortunately, we were a little too far from the sea to nip out and have some shots taken on the beach…
Pretty Seaside Wedding Decorations…
" I bought loads of gorgeous sea shells for Due South to decorate the tables with at our venue. Instead of name cards on tables, Due South used pebbles from the beach onto which they wrote names in gold…"
Wedding Cakes and Woody…
"Our Cake Supplier was Gemma of Iced Gem Cakes in Brighton ~ a really lovely lady, and incredibly artistic. We had a round top tier on a stand with individual wedding cakes for each guest, each decorated with handmade chocolate sea shells. She also made icing models of Bevan, me and our little dog Woody for the top of the cake (Woody was also present at our wedding ceremony in Brighton Town Hall wearing his own bow tie)…"
"Bevan chose my emerald cut platinum engagement ring from De Beers in London so we also decided to buy our platinum wedding rings from De Beers as well. My band was slightly wider than my engagement ring, and they look really lovely together. Bevan has huge hands so he opted for a really wide, flat style band! Both were engraved inside with the date of our wedding and the words "Love and Laughter" which we referred to in our vows…"
Words of Wisdom?
"Enjoy every minute of it, and just go with the flow. Don't waste the opportunity to really say how you feel in your vows, and in your speech if you decide to do one (which I did, and I used the opportunity to tell my sister how much she means to me). I can honestly say that our wedding day was the best day in my life, and I still feel emotional thinking about it 2 years down the line.
We wanted a joyful, intimate, classy day for us and our 50 guests…and that's exactly what we got. So many of the guests at our wedding have said to us that it was the loveliest wedding they've ever attended, which is wonderful to know. And I'm also really pleased that we decided to ask guests to donate to Oxfam, rather than buy gifts that we didn't need….people were really generous."
So so beautiful, so much love! I'm now well and truly set up to float through this day with a big smile on my face – thank you Marnie and thank you Lisa Devlin!
