Sarah Vivienne Wedding Photography…

I’m totally thrilled to this morning have the opportunity of introducing you to a brand new Love My Dress Wedding Blog Sponsor.   Northampton Wedding Photographer, Sarah Vivienne, is the latest talent behind the camera to join our fold.  I first came across Sarah back in July this year, when Sarah contacted me to see if I’d be interested in featuring a recent bridal fashion photoshoot she had worked on – and indeed I was, for it was a beautiful stylish affair, that you can see here.

More recently, I got chatting with the lady behind the camera, and this is what she had to say…

“I’m Sarah, and I own Sarah Vivienne Photography. I’m a typical Capricorn, wife to Steve and Queen of List Making. I mainly shoot weddings, alongside portraits and a bit of commercial work. I love holidays and I hate rhubarb.

I’m based in Northampton but cover weddings all over the UK and abroad. One of the things I love about my job is seeing lots of different places. I have a few wedding venues that I work at regularly but mostly I’m somewhere new each time, which I think is important as it keeps you thinking and keeps your work fresh and unique for each client.

I love weddings, but for all the yummy cakes, to-die-for shoes and amazing dresses I get to see, it’s the relationship with my clients that I enjoy the most…”

Why weddings?
“In the same year as the redundancy I was also a guest at a few family weddings. Half way to knowing that I wanted to set up my own photography business at this point, I was spurred on by those Brides’ disappointment in their wedding photographs and the service, or lack of, that they received. I’ve always been about raising standards and this is somewhere that I thought I could make a difference. Plus I’m a girly girl and love a wedding!

I love everything about wedding photography. But most of all I like being able to show people that despite what they may believe, they can look fabulous in photos…

Sarah is a qualified member of the Master Photographers Association.

“I’ve always had a creative streak but followed a typical academic path ending with a business studies degree, followed by 10 years of climbing the proverbial corporate ladder. When my most recent role was made redundant I decided I wanted to learn how to use an SLR with my new found spare time. I’ve always seen the world in pictures but now I wanted to learn about the technical side.

It was just a fun thing at this point. At the time I thought I’d never figure out SLR controls but I’ve always been stubborn so wasn’t going to give in!  I loved every minute with a camera in my hands and, not being very good at doing what I’m told, had often dreamt of running my own business one day. Now I finally knew what I wanted to do when I grew up!”

What is your Signature Style?…

“My work has a candid feel and though there are times when I work purely hands-off (such as during the ceremony and speeches), I’m far from being a reportage photographer.   I want my clients to look amazing but also for the photographs to be full of emotion, vibrancy and atmosphere.

I try to create pictures that are both beautiful and lively. To achieve this I control and direct most shots to a greater or lesser extent. But I like to break the formality of posed photos by creating believable moments and great expressions…

“…I’ll pour over the editorial and fashion advertising photography in high end magazines, like Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, for hours on end, analysing what makes them work or not work. Often I’ll see something that will spark a thought and then I’ll translate it into a shot that will work for my client. At the moment I particularly love the dynamic arrangements of Annie LIebovitz’s ‘celebrity groups’ work for Vogue and am working on bringing some of this into my family group photos.

But also it’s the venues I shoot at and my clients themselves. Couples choose a venue because they love it and so I like the feel of the venue to come across in their photographs. This isn’t as obvious as it may sound! I’ll be looking at the style of the architecture and décor and the natural frames such as doors and windows, and use those as a starting point. Add in a couple that are totally in love and not afraid to show it, and ‘bingo’ the magic starts!
