1940s Dressing Up…

A little something different today. It's not very often I feature couples or engagement shoots, and that's something I'd like to work on.   At first glance, one would be mistaken for thinking this was a beautifully styled engagement shoot.  These photographs are actually part of a project that Newcastle Upon Tyne Wedding and Portrait Photographer, Mandy Charlton initiated to capture people 'dressing up'.  I loved these photos soon as I saw them – they evoke images of wartime sweethearts being reunited, but they also manage to beautifully portray the fun this couple had on this photoshoot 🙂

Mandy Charlton explains more…

"On new years eve, my Hubby and I went out and met the couple photographed below, Claire and John, for a couple of drinks.  We were were discussing what I was going to be doing this year and I said I'd always wanted to do a 1940's styled shoot, I just had to figure out when I could fit it in.

New Years day arrived and I suddenly had inspiration- my project 'Dressing Up' was borne; over the next 3-4 months I am photographing a myriad of people who have been given the words "Dressing Up" to interpret in anyway they want to.  Mostly I try not to get involved with their choices of outfit and location but with Claire and John it was a great excuse to schedule the 40's themed shoot.

Claire and John both hired costumes and we shot up at a beautiful bridge at Wylam and a railway station at Riding Mill.  Claire looked quite the femme fatal and John looked like the star of a film noir, he'd even gone to the trouble of having a wet shave at a barbers with a cut-throat razor… "

"The makeup was beautifully done by another friend who used to be a makeup artist, and who gave Claire a gorgeous 1940's look.

All this input, plus a couple who are genuinely head over heels in love, lead to these lovely finished shots…"
