1970s Inspired Lavender Field Bridal Inspiration Shoot…

Hi Al! Hope this finds you well on this Tuesday lunch time.  I do very much hope you have had a chance to read this morning’s blog features, but in particular this one, which talks about breast cancer {did you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month} and how you can involve victims present and past on your wedding day.  It’s a really touching feature written by a Bride whose wedding has formerly featured on Love My Dress.

So, this afternoon I’m shifting my focus over to beautiful inspiration shots for all my lovely Bride to be readers.  I’ve been so looking forward to featuring this particular 70’s inspired bridal photoshoot with you too;  not only is it the work of some of my favourite industry people, it really appeals to my more romantic tendencies – set in the most stunning lavender fields  {always conjures up images of laying down on a hot summers day with lemonade, strawberries, a good book and a Husband! ;)}.

Photographer Eddie Judd teamed up with Blogger and Stylist Charley Beard of London Bride to create these beautiful photographs and I’m really proud to be able to showcase the results of their talent and hard work on Love My Dress.  I’m going to hand over to Charley to tell us all about it, but first, a little taster video to get you in the mood 🙂

One of photographer  Eddie Judd’s favourite places to photograph family shoots and portraits was the nearby lavender fields to her home in Surrey. Eddie was inspired by the stunning fields as a backdrop for a hazy summer bridal photo shoot and enlisted my help to co-ordinate and bring it to life.

The initial thought she had was based on the iconic 1970’s Cadbury Flake advert where the lady is sitting in a hazy poppy field painting away. Since there has been a huge surge of 70’s style trend in fashion, and even in bridal wear I was excited about re-creating a glamorous 70’s look and having seen the comeback of the bridal jumpsuit on a number of designer catwalks I really wanted to include this as part of the ensemble.

Unfortunately I was unable to use a bridal designer for the jumpsuit as they were all being used for fashion shows, so in typical stylist fashion, I used an £80 white jumpsuit from Asos instead! It just shows that you can look to the high street for your outfit and that you aren’t necessarily limited to expensive designer dresses! I absolutely had to include the white floppy sunhat, which I think is the perfect addition for a 70’s style bride. It would also be great if you are marrying abroad to keep the sun off your face but still remain trés chic!

The backdrop itself was so charming that the flowers were kept fairly simple and retro. Steph at Fairy Nuff Flowers put together a bouquet of white carnations –  which are iconically 70’s and can be deemed as ‘garage flowers’ – but we wanted to show that they can in fact look really beautiful when put together well, which she did! I love the ivy which has a retro vibe to it whilst also adding depth and colour.

We had hair stylist extrodinaire Severin from The Hepburn Collection create the most voluptuous bouncy Jerry Hall style waves in the first look which I’d love to see more on brides as it looks natural yet glamorous. Make-up artist Tammi Nguyen did a great job with Sarah’s make-up (even in the heat!) with a flawless skin, neutral slightly smoky eye and bold, sexy deep red lips…

For our second look, we added a bit of romance so we switched the bride’s bouquet to a stunning rose and lavender hand-tied posy with the stems showing, and Severin styled the prettiest of fishtail plaits worn to the side. We were lucky enough that our handsome model couple, Sarah and Jamie were in fact a real life couple so they had beautiful chemistry and were so natural to work with.

I wanted Jamie to be a chic but sexy unshaven 70’s groom, so he donned a very suave navy vintage velvet blazer from Tweedmans  with matching bow tie and his buttonhole put together by Steph was an echo to the bouquet with red roses and lavender sprigs which I just loved – all tied with natural raffia.

Eddie and I were both keen to do a mini-film to compliment the photo shoot, especially since the original idea behind it was the flake advert and luckily the talented Paul Gwilliams joined us on the day to capture it all.

Paul did a great of combining the beauty of the shoot and the fields with a little of the behind of the scenes work. This was edited by Jon Collins in a fab retro and purposefully hazy and laid back video which you can see here, enjoy but be warned it may make you yearn for summer again!

It was such an inspiring day and a joy to work with so many talented suppliers – everyone did well given it was a very long and hot summers day!

We’d also like so say congratulations to Sarah and Jamie who recently got engaged! Such lovely news and I’m sure you’ll agree they make a beautiful couple!

So many thanks to Eddie, Charley, Severin and the whole team behind this glorious set of images to inspire you all. Each of the suppliers listed below who worked on this shoot, are available to book for your own wedding day, and I personally can’t recommend them all highly enough.

You can see more 1970’s style bridal inspiration on Love My Dress here – you can also browse through other styles of bridal inspiration shoot – enjoy! 😉

I’d love to get some feedback.  Are any of you Brides embracing the whole 70’s look for your wedding day? What about a trouser suit or floppy hat?  Would make a great ‘going away’ outfit, don’t you think? 🙂

Much love all,

Annabel xXx
