It’s nearly lunch time so whilst I have your attention (admit it, you’ve started browsing Love My Dress already!}, I’d like to introduce you to new Love My Dress Sponsor and Leeds and Yorkshire Wedding Photographer, Oliver Collinge

“I’m Oliver and I’m a wedding photographer.  I live in Ilkley which is near Leeds in Yorkshire. I’ll travel anywhere to shoot weddings. This year I’ve shot weddings as distant as Aberdeen and London (and lots of places in between); I’ve also got a couple of location weddings in the offing for next year which is really exciting…”

“A friend asked me to shoot his sister-in-law’s wedding (a friend of the couple had promised to do but it dropped out at the last minute).

I reluctantly agreed (having heard scary stories about the stress of photographing weddings); the couple were delighted with the pics and (in spite of the pressure) I loved the experience. One thing led to another and before I knew it I was shooting 30+ weddings a year….”

“It sounds simple but the best thing, is working with people who are really, really happy – how many other jobs is that true of? I tend to attract couples who are similar to me and we usually end up having a great laugh and we often stay in touch afterwards.

I think it’s really important to properly get to know your photographer before you commit – so I always try to meet couples before they book me, or at least have a long chat on the phone about their plans and the sort of photography they want…”

The wedding below by the way is one of my favourite ever weddings on Love My Dress…

“The main thing I’m trying to achieve is to make a faithful and beautiful record of the day. I’m not the sort of photographer who tries to run the day and pose lots of shots; my style’s really about being relaxed and inconspicuous – this way people act naturally and I can capture beautiful shots of real emotions. And because I don’t spend ages over the formal shots (though we’ll generally do a few groups and spend a little time on some bride & groom portraits) my couples have time to enjoy their wedding day, which is really just a big party after all…”

“I don’t tend to apply lots of vintage processing to my pictures – I know this is very on trend at the moment, and it may be controversial, but I can’t help feeling that in a few years the whole Instagram look will feel as dated as spot colour does now. But I do edit each photo individually in Photoshop so that colour, contrast and sharpness are as perfect as possible. Each picture is a little labour of love…”
