A 1950s and ’60s Inspired Good Old London Knees Up!

Gooood morning! Don't ya just love that Friday feeling? Forget the superstitious stuff, this is going to be good day. Yes it is! Yesterday was a quiet day on the blog, but today I'm making up for it!

So, join me in saying hello to lovely bride Laura, who married her beau Will on 21st April 2012, at Wandsworth Town Hall in London in the Grand Chamber, which so happens to be the very same building that Laura's parents got married…

"One of our missions for the day was to recreate a photo from their wedding of them stood outside the main entrance. After the ceremony we all headed over to The Antelope pub in Tooting Broadway for a good old knees up…"

Laura's lovely vintage dress and pretty headpiece were purchases from the delectable ladies over at Fur Coat No Knickers.  And yes, with the exception of her bouquet, bride Laura and her husband Will chose to have no flowers, or cake at their wedding day.  Not they say, that anyone even noticed.

"My dress was actually the first one I tried on and I knew that it was the one for me straight away. I knew I wanted a short dress and tried on a few 50's dresses with full skirts but they look quite right.

I think the 'wiggle dress' style suited my height and figure. Laura and Emma at Fur Coat No Knickers suggested making some small changes to the dress such as changing the neckline and adding a V to the back which looked amazing…"

I knew I wanted a vintage style dress and that Will was going to go for a slim fitted suit – so I knew we would match.

My gorgeous birdcage veil was made by the ladies at Fur Coat No Knickers – the same place I got my dress. I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep it for the duration, but after a while I forgot I had it on! I wore it til the end of the night!"

Once again, the fabulous Rachel Simpson supplies a Love My Dress bride with beautiful pair of shoes – this pair is called Flo and they were purchased via stockist Fur Coat No Knickers…

"Our photographers Pen and her husband Cam of McKinley Rodgers were amazing. We met them for a pre-wedding shoot back in December 2011 and we loved them immediately. Their photos, as you can see, are stunning.

I knew I wanted to have Freesias and Roses and took along Will's tie which we used as a guide to pick the colour of the roses. The roses were called 'Memory Lane' and were a beautiful lilac with a pink edge. We had baby rose plants on the tables at the reception venue which our guests were able to take home with them at the end of the night. A few friends have been updating me about how their plants are getting on at home which is nice!"

"Will wore a suite from Reiss – it was a classic slim fitting one button suit in Airforce Blu.  He also wanted a lilac pink skinny tie from Topman / Creta Tan shoes from Poste…"

"We gave The Antelope staff a box of goodies, including pictures of our parents'/grandparents' wedding days, baby photos, paper pom-poms, homemade place settings and the roses for the tables, and they worked their magic to produce the perfect setting for our wedding reception…"

"I found these decorative pom-poms online the week leading up to the wedding which I thought looked great at The Antelope – they were pretty cheap too!"

"When we first met, 50's and 60's R&B style Soul was all we wanted to listen to. It was the perfect soundtrack for our collective mood. So Jackie Wilson's 'Sweetest Feeling' was almost a no-brainer as a first dance … Although 'Twistin' the Night Away' by Sam Cooke was a close second!"

 

"I had simple pearl earrings from Ernest Jones and a pearl bracelet with a vintage style clasp from Katherine Swaine for notonthehighstreet.com.."

 

"My makeup and hair was by Miss Honey-Bare at Hey Day Honey. We tried a few different styles but went for the more 60's look with the hair as I felt that I still wanted to look like myself so wanted something that wasn’t too different from my hair naturally…"

"I walked down the aisle to 'At Last' by Etta James…."

"I would definitely recommend a photobooth or silly space for photos of your guests being silly! The photos were great and it was also nice to ensure we had photos of our evening guests…"

Words of Wedded Wisdom… 

"We decided not to have any favours or a cake – and no one noticed! We thought the money would be better spent on other things (such as a bar tab) which we thought our guests would appreciate more! "
