More About Love My Dress…

A Potted History

You’ve probably arrived here from our ‘About page’ as you’re curious to know more.  Here’s a little potted history that charts the progress of Love My Dress from its inception in 2009 to the present day.

Love My Dress published it’s very first blog post in 2009, and it had nothing to do with weddings!  Over the coming six months, I developed a mild obsession with focused on building up my blog post archive and by April 2010, I had taken on my first blog sponsors.  Love My Dress continued to flourish in 2010 and by May 2011, whilst I was on maternity leave with my second child, I realised that there was a potential to turn Love My Dress in to my full time job. And so I did! In May 2011 I took a leap of faith and handed in my notice, leaving my former role as Principal Administrative Officer at a University to pursue my dream job of working for myself and inspiring brides all over the word.

Love My Dress is now considered an influential brand and trusted authority in the UK wedding industry and across the globe.  In my first year as a full time blogger, I spoke at the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners annual conference and was invited to exhibit Love My Dress at New York Bridal Market – where I met one my wedding design idols, Claire Pettibone (and went very red in the face when I suddenly realised it wa her I was talking to!). In 2012, I was invited to speak at the Aspire Photography Training course where I addressed a room full of professional wedding photographers on how to work with wedding bloggers.

I rarely like having my photo taken but in February 2011, I participated in this shoot at Luella’s Boudoir with other influential UK Wedding bloggers.  The photoshoot was lead by British Journal of Photography Award Winner Lisa Devlin and sponsored by Global brand Hasselblad. Features followed in Wedding Magazine and Photo Pro Magazine.

In June 2011, Love My Dress was listed in the ‘Recommend Blogs and Articles’ section of a beautiful hard-back ‘coffee table’ book by Marnie Fogg on ‘Vintage Weddings, with foreword by Fashion Designer great, Bruce Oldfield.   You can buy your own copy of the book online here.

In August 2011, I hosted my first major wedding industry networking event at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts in Gateshead, North East England.  Over 250 people travelled the length and breadth of the UK to attend the ‘Love My Dress Summer Soiree’, including top bridal wear designer Sassi Holford and best selling wedding magazine editor Catherine Westwood.

In September 2011, I became a member of the judging panel for the independent and superbly organised Wedding Industry Awards, alongside fellow panel members, Peggy Porschen and Sassi Holford. During the same month, I also withdrew from writing magazine features for Vintage Life Magazine and Wedding Magazine, to focus on my biggest project yet – my first book!

In April 2012, I helped raise almost £40,000 for Oxfam via curating a photoshoot for the Oxfam Weddings auction. I am now an Ambassador for Oxfam Weddings.

In April 2013, my very first, beautiful book, Style Me Vintage: Weddings went on sale in the UK, USA and Australia.  I launched the book with a party styled by some of the industry’s leading suppliers in East London on 10th April.

2014 will see the launch of a rebrand, and welcome our very first real brides. We have a number of other secret and exciting projects up our sleeve too – watch this space.
