Delicate Lace By Justin Alexander For A Pretty Yellow Barn Wedding

Good afternoon ladies and gents, this afternoon's real wedding, our
3rd this week, is a gorgeous affair infused with lots of pretty shades
of yellow.  Dave and Jenny tied the knot on 6th April 2013 with a ceremony at The Church of our Lady, Merevale followed by a reception at Packington Moor Farm.

"We both knew we wanted a traditional wedding so when we first
started planning booking the church and reception venue was the first
port of call. I had almost too many ideas until we booked Packington
Moor with was perfectly styled already. 

We decorated the venue with pretty vintage details that fitted the
theme and setting. I gradually gathered a wide selection of crockery,
vases and mirrors from charity shops, which we used for flowers and
decorations. We hired a vintage suitcase from Wedding of my Dreams
for guests to put cards in. The Oat Barn at Packington is so beautiful
we only added a few personal touches like the hanging hearts my mum
made."

"I tried on around twenty
dresses on a shopping day with my Mum, bridesmaid Bex and Auntie Kate. I
love lace so went for dresses with lace detailing, when I tried my
dress on I knew it was ‘the one’ straight away. It was the one which
made my mum well up and every dress after just didn’t measure up. I
adored the lace, the satin sash and flower detail. The shape was
gorgeous and the train was stunning!

My veil was also from Occasions By Design.
Initially I didn’t think I wanted a veil with lace on it, as the dress
was all lace. I should have known though as soon as I tried on lace veil
I would love it. To add a little extra to it we had a spread of small
sparkles put on it, which caught the light and looked beautiful."

"Dave’s suit was from Mr Start in Shoreditch.
He had tried a grey Mr Start suit on in Selfridges in Birmingham, which
looked great. So when we went to London at Christmas we visited the Mr
Start shop to see if they had any navy suits. As soon as Dave tried on
his suit we knew it was meant for him, even the shop assistant said it
was a perfect fit. He looked so handsome."

"We’ve
been together since school, almost ten years, it took Dave a while to
pluck up the courage to ask me out ☺ We’ve been together ever since.
From school, to university, moving in together, then getting Humphrey
the Springer Spaniel, we have grown over time from a teenage romance, to
a “grown up couple.  He outdid himself by proposing on
Valentine’s 2011, completely surprising me after a romantic meal! I was
so shocked I didn’t even cry, which is almost unheard of if you know
me."

"My shoes were ‘Amelia’  by Rachel Simpson via Occasions By Design."

"My
Mum made the cake for us. It was a labour of love! Not only did it look
amazing, incorporating Dave’s request for daises!! But it tasted scrummy
too!  We also had a dessert table, which included profiteroles made by Dave’s Mum, cake pops from Delish Cakepops. Neli from Delish created yellow and white cakepops for the dessert table and Gruffalo cakepops for the children."

"Me and my Mum did a lot of the flowers ourselves but we used Passion for Flowers to do the bouquets, button holes and 2 large arrangements for the church. Karen from Passion for Flowers
captured our vision perfectly. We went for spring flowers in yellows,
white and greens. We wanted the flowers to complement the theme and the
venue.

Dave’s one stipulation was that we had daisies! I met up with
Karen a few times to discuss what we wanted and the flowers she created
were stunning."

 

"Our photographer was Nicola from Daffodil Waves.
I don’t know where to begin expressing how amazing she was and how
truly stunning the photos are. Throughout the day she was there to
capture everything we could have wanted. It felt like she was a member
of the family and was able to get all the photos we wanted as well as so
many beautiful unexpected moments.

We never felt rushed or
uncomfortable, Nicola timed everything perfectly. When we received the
photos I was an emotional wreck! I couldn’t believe how gorgeous they
were and how perfectly they captured our day. My Mum summed it up
perfectly “When you booked Nicola I could tell she was good, but not
this good!”

"Bex, my bridesmaid's dress was from Coast.
We bought it a year before the wedding, yellow was in all the shops. It
came with a ribbon but I ordered a cream silk sash from Little Bevan instead.

 My flowergirl Millie’s dress was from John Lewis, again lace to match the theme! The yellow silk sash was also from Little Bevan.  Both Bex and Millie had hair accessories form Accessorize."

"Emma Ward from Emma Ward
Beauty did my makeup as well as my Mum’s and Bex’s. She was totally fab
in the run up to the day and on the day, keeping me calm and doing our
makeup beautifully. She listened to what we wanted but also suggested
things that might suit. I am so glad I trusted her ideas! I loved my
makeup and it lasted for the entire day."

"I
attached an antique broach that belonged to my Grandma to a hair pin.
It was my something old and meant a lot to me as she passed away when I
was 11. It meant she was part of our day."

"The church was less than 5 minutes away from my parent’ house. I had always said that I wanted to get married there. We chose Packington Moor Farm
because we felt it suited us as a couple. I used to visit when I was a
child before they converted the barns. We used to pick our own
strawberries and visit the farm shop as it was then. So when we found it
during our venue search it felt like it was meant to be. We knew we
wanted a countryside wedding and once we’d chosen Packington a lot other
details fell into place…"

"The car belonged to my Uncle Robin, who was out chauffeur! It was a Vintage Aston Martin DBS…"

"My Dad gave me away. I was so proud walking down the aisle with him.  Did you ‘walk down the aisle’ to a particular track or song?    I walked down the aisle to the traditional bridal march."

"We had traditional Church of England vows. 
A close family friend read from the bible for us. She read the same
passage that she read at my parent’s wedding, Ephesians 3 14-19. It was a
really special part of the day.   Dave’s sisters read a poem named ‘On Your Wedding Day’, they chose this for us.
My
Auntie read a poem she had written called ‘Jenny and Dave’ while my
cousin George assisted with props! It was hilarious and we were so proud
of him standing up in front of everyone."

"For
our first dance we chose a song by Athelte called ‘Half Light’. It was a
live acoustic version.  Athlete have been the soundtrack to our
relationship, we have been to gigs together, bought each other albums,
so it was really special to have our first dance to one of their songs.

We
hired a friend to do our entertainment. Dave mountain bikes with Glen
and he played at other wedding we had been to. He played a mix of live
music and dj sets, taking on board the music we asked for. He was
awesome and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening entertainment!"

"Enjoy
your day, take in all the hard work you have done to plan it and put it
together. Ultimately the best part of the day is becoming husband and
wife.

"It is so hard to choose a
favourite part of the day. For me it was the moment I reached the top of
the aisle and saw Dave for the first time. But throughout the day there
was moment after moment that I’ll always remember and thanks to Nicola
we have beautiful photos of lots of them. 

It’s
not something I could have changed but I would have loved more time. I’m
sure every bride says that but the day goes so quickly."
