An Ostrich Feather Wedding Dress For an Urban and Asian Inspired Wedding

A lovely late afternoon addition to our collection of posts today with this wedding day bursting full of colour.  Ally and Leah tied the knot on 6 May at Manchester Town Hall, followed by a reception at Room Restaurant.  Their day was one full of bright, vibrant hues and a dress that smacked urban elegance…

"I purchased my wedding dress from Ebay via a boutique shop in Sheffield that had closed down – they were selling their samples.

Regrettably it didn't have it's designer label in, so I'm unable to share this with you, but I love that it's
different from the usual kind of wedding dress you see, and  I
particularly loved the
ostrich feathers on the skirt of the dress."

"We wanted a Manchester urban style wedding but we wanted an Asian
feel to it as well due to my background (half-Filipino). To achieve an
Asian feel we wanted bold and bright colours.  We wanted the two venues
to complement each other as well which they do.  There was a slight
religious influence with the wedding venue as I am Catholic (Ally is an
atheist) and we found that Manchester Town Hall had that gothic, church
like feel.  We also wanted a very non-traditional style wedding to suit our personalities and lifestyle.

Our florist was Northern Flower, a boutique florist in the Norther Quarter in Manchester – they are local to the venue and we wanted flowers from an independent
florist.  We also wanted flowers with a tropical and Asian feel.  We
wanted bold and bright colours, again to reflect the style of the
wedding."

"Andy Wardle was our photographer. We found Andy very relaxed and friendly. He made us feel comfortable when we had our photos taken.  We didn’t find him obtrusive at all.  I would certainly recommend Andy and his style of photography complimented our wedding style.  We particularly liked the evening shots as they were informal and they had a party/fun style feel to them."

"Ally and I met in 'Bungalows And Bears', a bar in Sheffield.  I
had met with friends after the football match (Sheffield Utd vs
Manchester City!), and we were sat on the same sofa.  We got engaged on
our third year anniversary in Istanbul, Turkey in March 2011 and got married a year later."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Do
the planning together, it’s what we did and it helped us enjoy the
planning and run up to the wedding.  Also, if you have an initial style in your head, you should
see if your budget can cover it before committing to it.  Our initial idea was to have a
summer outdoor wedding but due to a pretty limited budget and the
unreliable British weather, we changed our original ideas and this was the
best decision we could have made.

In terms of the wedding day itself, try to just relax. I found
that I was a lot more relaxed than I thought I would be and I know I enjoyed the day a lot more for it."
