Polka Dots, Daisies and a Yellow Petticoat: A Candy Anthony Dress for a Seaside Wedding

Morning all, hoping this finds you safe, happy, well and ready to take on another day.  This totally relaxed and care-free seaside wedding that I'm sharing this morning took place on 10th August last year, when Heather, a  Compliance Officer for a Pharmaceutical company married Pawel, a secondary school teacher.  The ceremony took place at Brighton Town Hall and the wedding party went on to the OhSo Bar for a drinks reception on the seafront before moving on to Proud Cabaret for their evening celebrations.  I love the little details in this wedding, that gorgeous 50's inspired, polka dot gown by Candy Anthony, that twirly yellow petticoat and the darling daisy bouquet.

"We just wanted a relaxed day with our friends and family and actually vowed not to have any particular themes or colours. I guess our inspiration was the town we live in, Brighton. We wanted our guests to get to see a bit of the town, rather than being stuck in one venue for the entire day, so we made sure we had seaside drinks with fish and chips and a bus journey along the seafront to our evening venue.  We were extremely lucky and had a beautiful sunny day."

"Pawel and I met via a work colleague of mine. It took us a while to sort out a first date, but we didn’t look back after that first drink in the pub!  Pawel asked me to marry him on a cold, but sunny February day on Brighton seafront, over a bag of chips. It wasn’t planned, so was a bit of surprise for both of us.

We went straight to the pub to celebrate with a whisky! We were engaged for 18 months before our wedding."

"I found my dress at Candy Anthony, based at the Oxo Tower in London.  I didn’t want a long wedding dress and always thought I would find something in a high street store.

I only made one dress shop appointment at Candy Anthony and it really didn’t take too long to choose the dress. It was so much fun putting it together, picking the colour of the petticoat, the polka dot overlay and the cute little bow."

“Our florist was Kate Langdale.  I wanted something quite simple, so went for one giant hydrangea flower with small yellow daisies round the edge to match my yellow petticoat. My bridesmaid had a similar bouquet. Kate also did some lovely button holes for the blokes including a thistle for my Scottish dad.”

"When I think about my most treasured memories of the day, they were getting ready in the morning, walking from the Town Hall down to the seafront with our sunnies on and parasol up, having all our lovely friends and family with us. Our time on the carousel and having 20 mins with our photographers to get some amazing photos."

“Our photographers were Tino & Pip, who were absolutely amazing. . We didn’t fancy a lot of posed shots and when we found their website and saw how they worked, we knew they were for us. The captured every little moment of our wedding day and we loved that they were able to get photographs of us both getting ready in the morning. It was so exciting to receive the photos, to relive the day and see the bits that we missed.

We ordered a photo album for ourselves and an album each for our parents. They are so beautifully presented and a fantastic memory of our wedding."

"My shoes were by Irregular Choice.  I wanted shoes that I could wear again, so steered away from the traditional wedding shoes. Everything about the shoes are fab including the box they came in!

"My accessories included a bracelet – a gift from my bridesmaid which I had worn at her wedding when I was her bridesmaid. I also wore my grandmothers eternity ring and carried a blue handkerchief from Pawel’s nan as my something 'borrowed and blue'."

"My Dad walked me down the aisle, to the sound of Love me tender by Elvis Presley.

For our ceremony readings, we chose a quote by Albert Einstein read by Pawel’s sister; 'Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.'"

"The Proud Cabaret venue is beautifully styled, so we didn’t need any extra decor.  We did have a self-portrait project to keep our guests busy. We asked everyone to draw a picture of themselves or another guest and they pegged them all up in an area of the venue. Everyone got stuck into this. We’ve stuck them all in our guest book."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

“Keep it simple, do it well!  Also, try not to worry so much about the organisation of the day – it does all come together in the end."
