Covet Love: Summer Frocks, Good Food and A Spot of Gold

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a lovely Friday! What a gorgeous week of real weddings we have had. This post is the second of the new Covet Love series started by Annabel last week. If you missed the first you can see it here. I’m truly excited to be able to share some of the items I have been coveting this week!

A midi skirt is my go-to skirt style. It’s not only ultra flattering but you can move around and dance to your hearts content without needing to worry. This gorgeous tropical print dress from Tara Starlet is my ideal summer dress. I can imagine wearing it to go sightseeing on holiday and equally to a summer wedding. I have a couple of pieces from previous collections and they wear very well. A big bonus is that all Tara Starlet pieces are designed and made in the UK.

I was lucky enough to get a selection of samples from Aveda skincare and hair products recently. I’m interested in changing my usual products to more natural ones so I was curious to see how the products held up against my usual lotions and potions. I loved the green science firming face creme (2) but the one I will be buying again soon is the ‘Be Curly’ style prep. I favour a wavy look rather than a full on curl but this product smoothes the natural curl, holds the styled waves and keeps frizz at bay.

I covet almost everything by Alex Monroe anyway but this feather necklace (3) is most definitely my favourite (this month!). I saw it in person earlier this week and the size of the feather is perfect for everyday wear. It looks delicate but not too dainty. It’s definitely on my ‘if you want to buy me a present’ list 😉

Since my last watch stopped I have been on the lookout for a pretty yet classic timepiece to replace it with. I think my search came to an end when I found Olivia Burton’s beautiful watches (4). I adore the simple slightly vintage style with the large face and rose hue. In fact I’m still not sure if I can only choose one, there is a gorgeous grey and gold one.

I have seen them on so many different types of people and they always look amazing. I would wear them with some light coloured boyfriend jeans rolled up a little to show the whole shoe with a printed t-shirt.

As a reformed nail-biter I struggle to grow my nails very long so I find that a nice manicure improves my short nails immeasurably. I normally go for a colour-pop but this nude vanilla shade caught my eye as I’m always on the lookout for a light shade that doesn’t blend in with my pale skin. This nail paint is from a new ‘matte’ line by Barry M (6), a brand I really rate. I have (more than) a number of colours from other ranges already, including my current favourite pomegranate gelly nail and I shall be picking this one up (and maybe the Miami coral too) over the weekend so I’m intrigued to see how well the matte formulation stays intact without a glossy topcoat.

No wardrobe is complete without an oversize t-shirt dress in a nice fabric. This blue snakeskin style from Just Female (7) will take me through the Summer with metallic or white sandals and into the autumn with grey jeans, a long cardi and high-heeled boots. It’s been in the virtual basket a little too long, now is the time to make the order!

I have been looking for some nice wine glasses for a long time now but I recently found these silver stem glasses (8) on not on the high street. I have found some great buys on this website and invariably get way-laid while looking for something else. The stem is a dark silver colour, they look elegant yet the size of the actual glass looks quite generous. I might even buy a second set to give as a gift.

I came across Rubies in the Rubble (9) chutney a few weeks ago on a trip to Borough Market, a delight of fresh produce and yummy food in London. We found this little stall after stocking up on a LOT of French cheese and after a taster of each flavour we plumped for the Hot Banana and the Spicy Tomato chutnies. They were the perfect accompaniment to the cheese and now that the two jars I bought are finished I simply must go back to get the others. The best thing about this chutney is the ethos behind the brand, all fruit and veg used is sourced from surplus at the market and their workforce is made up of people struggling to get back into work.

In a few weeks I will be heading home to Belfast for a friend’s wedding. While I’m there I always try to take the time to visit some of the great places my friends and family rave about. I have heard very good things about Home (10), a former pop-up deli and restaurant but I am particularly excited about it because of their varied vegetarian and vegan menu options. As a life-long veggie it’s most disappointing to get rave reviews of a new eaterie only to discover that there’s only one unexciting dish on the menu that you can eat so it’s amazing to see a restaurant making an effort to cater to a more varied crowd. I hope it lives up to my hype!

What have you been coveting of late? I would love to know if you have tried or bought anything above recently.
