Covet Love – A London Flower Market and Lavender Cocktails

Happy Friday everyone, what have you been up to this week? It’s been a busy one here and so it’s been lovely to take time out to have a little muse about things for this Friday’s ‘Covet Love’. It’s good to stop and also to treat yourself occasionally too, don’t you think? We are often guilty of rushing about and ought to take a moment for things we enjoy, even if some of it is just daydreaming! Here are a few of my current loves, I hope you enjoy them.

(1) I went on a workshop in London a few years back and as part of it we were given the most fantastic goody bag filled with lovely things. One of which was a glittery green peter pan collar to pop over say a plain black top and ‘ta dah!’ suddenly you’ve an awesome black top! The designer was Alexandra King and I love her work. In particular I’m currently lusting after this gorgeous glittery clutch bag with its tiki style flower, which Alexandra promises will “escort you to events and carry your essentials with sparkle”. Just trying to think of an excuse to treat myself to it as we speak, I’ll keep you posted!

(2) I don’t have a wrist watch, I tend to destroy watches, I don’t know how I do it but I do. However, last year I saw this wish list by Charlotte Balbier here on Love My Dress® and I’m blaming her as this watch was on her list and I’ve wanted one ever since! A rose gold, crystal encrusted, mother of pearl Michael Kors watch. Promise I’d look after it! I’d be in trouble if I didn’t, it’s not the most cost effective solution for an accident prone watch wearer! (Approximately £170) It is sooo beautiful though isn’t it?

(3) I’m not the world’s greatest cook but I do really appreciate good cake and wish I could bake as this is a new favourite; Pistachio and Rosewater. I’m hoping one of my baking friends will see this and take the hint! If not there’s a fab little bakery in Manchester called ‘ And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon’ and they do a wicked gluten free version of it, perfect washed down with a pot of loose leaf earl grey. Beware though, this is not for the faint hearted it’s a very sweet combo! Or perhaps we could accompany it with a scented cocktail?

(4) This one is rather nice, a vodka lavender lemonade! I always fall in love with the idea of looking all sophisticated sipping cocktails but in reality often don’t actually like most of them. However this little beauty is just bitter sweet enough for my tastebuds, looks divine and is very, very refreshing. Go on, try it out.

(5) Having filled my lovely clutch bag with essentials, checked the time, refreshed myself with a slice of cake and a cuppa/cocktail, I’d love to spend a few lazy hours at Columbia Road Flower Market in London’s East End. I adore flowers and this is one of my favourite places in the world. Every time I go I buy arms full of them and only stop once I can literally can carry no more. The stallholders are passionate and knowledgable about their flowers, one chap has run his pitch since 1949! The fact too that the only thing that ever stops this market, is if Christmas day falls on a Sunday, proves it! Otherwise it’s there 8am-2pm every Sunday, all year round. A little bevy of vintage shops and cafes have sprung up along the road in more recent times too so it’s well worth a visit if that’s your thing.

My husband kindly downloaded ‘Everyday Robots’ the minute it was available, not that he was thanked for his efforts! I wanted it on CD to sit crossed legged on my bedroom floor, to pour over the cover, reading the song lyrics and playing it again and again…..I’ll settle for singing along to it in the car with the kids. This one is a brilliant song as is this little ditty about an elephant! I’d highly recommend the album, but then again I would as I am utterly biased.

(7) And lastly, I’ve been coveting this for a long time! Is there have a film you’ve always wanted to see but never got round too? I really enjoy old hollywood films and I bought the festive ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ on DVD about 3 years ago with the intention of settling down by the fire on a cosy Christmas evening to enjoy it, having never seen it. Needless to say in a house with 4 year old triplets, who have their birthday just days after Christmas, no such relaxing festive evening has ever occurred. So I watched it whilst doing the ironing on a very hot day a few weeks ago and am so glad I did!

its a wonderful life

It’s very sentimental and old fashioned (it is from 1946 after all) but with a lovely message and classic lines like “Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings” and “Why don’t you kiss her instead of talking her to death?” If you’ve not see this film you should, after all, it’s not just for Christmas, it’s for (a wonderful) life!

Have a brilliant weekend everyone, whatever you get up to take a minute to daydream, watch an old film or have a cocktail, I insist!

Much love, Rebecca x
