A Relaxed, Spring Wedding With Teepees and Treats

Please tell me that you have taken the time to watch this film today and read about this wedding? You are missing out so badly if not, I promise you.   For this late afternoon treat today, we’re sharing the Spring teepee wedding of Siobhán and Matt.  Siobhán, who runs her own catering company, Feast Yorkshire, tied the knot with insurance worker Matt on 3rd May this year at Sand Hutton in North Yorkshire, where Siobhán grew up and close to where Matt grew up too.

“Matt and I met when Matt had just finished University and I was about to go to University, we were both working in a restaurant – the rest is history! We go engaged 6 years later and were married within the year!

We most of all wanted the day to be relaxed but still fairly traditional. We wanted the day to feel personal to us, hence we made most things! We had Papakata Teepees in a friends garden – the first time we saw them years ago we always said that’s what we’d have on our wedding day!”

Siobhán’s dress was from Brides of York

“It was full lace – it had a detachable top which changed the look of the dress in the evening – I had it in my head what I wanted and it was a matter of persevering until I found it! Which I did eventually… 50 or so dresses later!

My veil was my ‘something borrowed’ from a friend – pieces of lace that attached to the top of my veil, they were beautiful!”

“We did the flowers ourselves, we sourced wood rounds from a local wood merchant and vases from an antique show for the centrepieces. A friend did amazing floral arches inside and outside the Church and all our bouquets.

We went together to Leeds flower market a 4am one morning the week of the wedding to buy the flowers – I was overwhelmed, I just chose all the white flowers I loved! Simple and country flowers. I (with my bridesmaids!) made all the mens buttonholes with flowers from Matt’s Mum’s garden.”

“I’m not sure either of us have yet pinned down one perfect moment, there were so many favourite moments in the day, I think a special moment for both of us was walking into the Tepees and being announced as Mr and Mrs Cliff – it was surreal seeing all those people we love in one place at one time just for us!”

“Jon from S6 Photography was our photographer – we both just fell in love with Jon’s photos the moment we saw them – his style was just what we wanted and he certainly didn’t fail us! We couldn’t be happier with our photos from the day. He caught the atmosphere of the day perfectly and so many special moments – we’d recommend him over and over!”

“I had some lessons from the Bobbi Brown counter at Browns in York then bought up the shop! They were fantastic! My hair and Bridesmaids hair was done at Bang (in York) they did an amazing job with our hair, lovely and natural!”

“My bridesmaids wore dresses from Dessy, and I bought them all a different pair of earrings each – ones they’d wear again. Neeya & Etoile from Stella and Dot, Pearl droplets from Not on the Highstreet, I made personalised little bags to give them in which were attached to the coat-hangers I made them.”

“During the ceremony, we had our reading done by a close cousin of mine and also by Matt’s Uncle/ Godfather – we had one biblical reading from Song of Solomon and also an extract from Les Misables – our favourite musical.”

A friend has some gorgeous vintage little cars and he took me to church then Matt and I went off after the ceremony in the car for a short drive which was nice to get a little time to ourselves!”

“As I run my own catering company, Feast Yorkshire,  we knew exactly what we wanted to have, we had potted pates as a sharing starter, followed by a warm duck salad, with chorizo and smoked lardoons with roasted cubed potatoes and tomaotes then followed by our favourite Sticky toffee pudding! We wanted something relaxed and so this was perfect – as favours I screen-printed our menus on tablecloths for our guests.”

“As I had done an art degree, I’m fairly hands on and love making things and so I designed and made all the invites, confetti bags, etc with some help from Matt and my bridesmaids!

We made all sorts to assist with the decor of our venue.  I drew drinks boards and made linen table runners, hanging jars for flowers, labels for the pate jars and ceramic tags for the guests name places, and painted wooden numbers from ebay for table numbers!”

“We had a photo booth via Booth Revolution – it was fantastic and certainly recommended! Having the book immediately to take home and flick through, reflecting on the whole day was brilliant and a great alternative to a guest book!”

“Our first dance was to Grown Old With Me – it was just a perfect song for the occasion that we both love! A lot of the other songs that have a meaning to us weren’t quite right for a first dance song!”

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

“If you are planning on making lots of things don’t leave things to the last minute! Do as much as you can before – it takes A LOT longer than you think!”

  1. I love all of your blogs but would be so grateful to know where this church location is? Do you know where this church was and would it be possible to add this information to the last part of your blogs going forward?
    Thanks so much
