Eco Chic Wedding Inspiration ~ Romantic Moroccan Style Yurt…

Hi everyone, how are you today? I was soooo poorly yesterday! But absolutely and completely determined to publish this gorgeous Yellow colour burst real wedding feature – if you haven't it, you really must.

Earlier this month, I launched a big competition on Love My Dress to give away a full £1,400 wedding photography package, care of the hugely generous, and talented, Dasha Caffrey, of Exhibit Emotions.  The competition encourages ALL Brides and Grooms {not just those that would consider themselves 'green' to explore ways of making their weddings more eco-friendly}.

Today, I'm delighted to feature this beautiful Eco-Chic Bride photoshoot, and hope it will provide inspiration to all you couple's planning on entering our our competition.

Amy and Max, a husband and wife team, who run the tent company Hooe's Yurts hosted an Eco Chic Wedding Shoot on a beautiful spring day in Devon recently. Their new yurts and exotic decoration had just arrived for the summer season 2011 so it was the perfect time to dress the yurts and take some wonderful photos to show them in their full glory. Amy and the award winning Devon photographer Rosie Parsons decided the shoot would be a great opportunity to bring together some local suppliers to showcase their skills and products. The day was a fantastic success and produced some inspiring ideas and photos…

The tents supplied by Hooe's Yurts are called Gers or Yurts – these are stunning round wooden tents based on a Mongolian nomadic design. The yurts come in various sizes from huge dining spaces to cosy snugs and it is possible to link yurts together creating an amazing space for a wedding reception for up to 200 guests. The yurts create a very special atmosphere and offer something really different from the traditional marquee. Amy from Hooe's Yurts is passionate about textiles and travels the world collecting items to lovingly decorated and furnish the yurts adding a real wow factor to the interiors…

To compliment the reception venue, Hooe's Yurts also offer exquisite honeymoon or guest bedroom yurts. Bedroom yurts are excellent for the bridal couple or special guests who want to stay at the wedding reception till dawn but also have a luxurious place to sleep. All the yurts can be well heated with traditional wood burners which make spring and autumn weddings a real possibility. Amy and Max have just got married themselves so understand the excitement and importance of "the big day" and love helping make other peoples weddings romantic, exotic and unforgettable.

To compliment the yurts many special people came together with their ideas, products and skills. Sarah from Boho Bride helped style the shoot. Sarah has just set up a new Devon based wedding styling company Dressed With Love. Sarah says, "When Rosie kindly approached me to see if I’d like to get involved in helping to style a photo shoot with Hooe’s Yurts, I of course jumped at the chance! Having recently embarked on setting up my new business, I was reveling in the idea of working with so many talented creatives…"

"Based in Henley on Thames, Florists Eric and Kathryn at Stemtation travel nationwide and have been helping brides to select their dream wedding flowers since 2003.  The exquisite bridal bouquets were designed by Eric who loves vintage style posies.  All the bouquets were created using seasonal, English grown flowers.  Individual blooms were selected for their informal appearance, colour and sensational scents.

The flowers used included Hyacinthus, Anemones, Hel leborus, Roses, Tulips and Blossom.  The thought was that using seasonal, UK flowers would really compliment the eco-chic wedding theme. They really looked fabulous on the day with a background of wonderfully decorated yurts and the blue sky!"

"For the Bride's look, I knew Amy’s sister Daisy was taking the role and would be dressed in a floaty Jenny Packham gown, so I decided to source some beautiful accessories to compliment the look. The lovely Katy Howieson offered to create a rustic head comb especially for the shoot, which featured dried lavender, burlap and feathers to echo some of the days other details, whilst artisan jeweller Sarah Hickey kindly lent two of her most iconic pieces, the stunning Silver Pearl Tusk Earrings and Single Pearl Necklace from her bridal collection…"

"Amy's sister the actor Daisy Dugmore was the beautiful bride wearing a Jenny Packman wedding dress from Pirouette in Exeter. Daisy hair was expertly styled by Laura Harding, who is based in Exeter. Laura says, "Once I arrived at the location of the Yurts and got a feel for the atmosphere I knew that the hair had to be very soft, romantic and natural. I met Daisy and it couldn't have been more perfect. She had long wavy hair with a sun kissed colouring which gave a feeling of Bohemia.

The dress was a classic Jenny Packham – soft and floaty, so keeping the hair down tousled and soft felt just right. This is a natural sexy soft boho wedding look that anyone can wear, it works really well with tiaras, hair clips, head bands; really any accessory but also looks great just on its own".

Devon photographer Rosie Parsons tells us…

"Amy, of Hooe's Yurts vision was to style the shoot in keeping with the Yurts themselves, in an ‘eco-chic’ theme with hints of vintage, so I set about collating the china I’d been hoarding in anticipation of a day such as this. The idea was to show off the beautiful yurts themselves, so all dressing needed to compliment rather than pull focus and having been told that the structure would be divided into three parts, a main party area, romantic bedroom and informal, vibrant Moroccan living/dining space. It seemed apt to create three distinct styles involving delicate china, rustic accessories, and opulent silverware and lustre vases. These details were perfectly complimented by some garden picked flowers which Amy and Daisy’s Mum elegantly arranged…"

"Lisa from Tricky Treats made the delicious organic cakes. Tricky Treats is based in Dorset and sources local ingredients wherever possible, their free-range eggs are from a farm down the road and the organic flour is from a mill in Shaftesbury. Tricky Treats are committed to making cakes that are free from artificial flavours and colourings, preferring instead to use fresh, dried or crystallised flowers and fruits for decoration and colouring.

The cakes for this shoot were miniature lavender sponge cakes made with dried lavender flowers, filled with butter-cream and blueberry compote. The top cake is also a lavender cake filled with softly whipped cream and blueberry compote."
